Study In Ireland- Apply for Student Visa

After you have gained admission into an Irish university, you will need to apply for a student visa at most three months before your travel date. The Irish student visa is the only way you will be allowed legal entry into the country. The good news is that the visa, which is classified as ‘long stay or D visa,’ is valid for the entire duration of your program. However, if you wish to stay back in Ireland after your degree is over, you will have to apply for a different visa or renew your visa through the immigration office.

THE REQUIREMENTS

Before you are granted an Irish student visa, you are expected to meet specific requirements.

  1. You must provide evidence that you have accepted the given admission and paid required fees to the institution.
  2. You must have two colored passport photographs taken within the last six months. Your name and visa application reference number must be printed clearly on the back.
  3. Your passport should be valid for at least one year after you have arrived in Ireland.
  4. You must prove that you have the finances to take care of yourself. This should be verified by an official bank statement. An estimated cost of at least $9,400 should be at your disposal for living in Ireland for a year and the same for each extra year you are to spend in Ireland.
  5. You must be proficient in the usage of the English language.
  6. If needed documents need to be translated into English, they must be done by a translator who will also endorse the accuracy of the translation. This should be followed by the date of the translation, the translator’s full name and signature, and the translator’s contact details.
  7. A signed letter of application, including your full contact details. This letter should outline your reason for wanting to come to Ireland and give details of any members of your family who are currently in Ireland, or any other EU Member State.
  8. You will also be required to sign an undertaking that you will observe the conditions of your visa and not become a burden on the State, and that you will leave the State on the expiry of your visa. If the course you now wish to study does not naturally follow on or relate to your educational/employment history, you must give valid reasons, supported by documentary evidence (where available), for this change.
  9. If you are under 18years, your birth certificate, proof of accommodation, and parents’ consent must be provided.

APPLICATION PROCESS

  1. If you have satisfied the requirements for the student visa application, go to the official government immigration website, and access the application form.
  2. After you apply online, submit your application, supporting documentation, photographs, receipts of fees paid, and passport to the visa application center in the consulate nearest to you.

After that, you can check your Ireland visa application status online, using your Visa Application Number to see if your visa has been processed. If your visa is approved, the Irish consulate will attach your visa to your passport and return to you. If your visa is refused, you can appeal the decision if it’s within two months

Original documents such as marriage/birth/death certificates will be returned to you. However, other documents, such as bank statements or letters of invitation, will not be returned. If there are particular documents that you wish to have returned, please provide a list of these documents when making the application.

Your visa application needn’t be a grueling task. Follow this guideline and when confused, reach out to the consulate nearest to you.
